His muscles are weakening, even after his diagnosis 2 years ago. As he couldn’t sleep much at night he learned new things instead. Raffay says his turning point came when he was introduced to the video game Borderlands.
His parents were first hesitant to encourage him, but seeing his interest in it they supported him. At the age of 13 he completed his first freelance assignment of coding the iOS game Mr Flap.
He was motivated by the psychologist Edward de Bono and read a lot of his published work on lateral thinking and creativity. His freelancing income has paid for gadgets, as well as the constant physiotherapy he must undertake to treat his disease.
Raffay’s first interaction with Plan9 came in 2013. Plan9 director Nabeel Qadeer noticed his talents and started to mentor him personally. Raffay started working as a technical consultant.
Raffay is now on the way of starting his own setup, Odyssy, which he explains as a data-driven content management system (CMS) targeted at bloggers and publishers. Raffay discloses that Odyssy is on the edge of closing its seed funding round – US$20,000 from an angel investor based out of Islamabad.
