Rawalpindi E-Transport Project Set to Roll Out by Month-End

The Punjab government is all set to launch a transformative Rs7 billion e-transport project in Rawalpindi. The Rawalpindi E-Transport Project will reportedly kick off by the end of this month. Moreover, the initiative will introduce 102 electric buses across 10 newly designated routes by late 2025. According to DC Cheema:

โ€œThe project will be started by the end of this month, and in the first phase, a bus depot will be constructed for the 102 electric buses at Siham on Peshawar Road. The provincial government has directed to start the construction work so the buses will be on roads as soon as the bus depot is completed.โ€

Rawalpindi E-Transport Network: A Green Leap Forward

The electric bus routes will span an 86-kilometer network linking key city locations, including the airport, railway station, metro bus hubs, and general bus stands, ensuring seamless connectivity with Islamabad and other urban centers. To support the project, a modern bus depot will be constructed on 28 Kanals near Pirwadhai Morr, Peshawar Road. The depot will feature advanced facilities including electric charging stations, maintenance areas, and amenities for drivers and passengers.

Deputy Commissioner Cheema underscored the initiativeโ€™s role in fighting air pollution and providing an eco-friendly alternative to traditional public transport. At bus stops, the government will make special provisions for women, elderly passengers, and persons with disabilities. The construction of bus stops along the 10 routes will reportedly start shortly. NESPAK has already conducted a feasibility study. The government has been making significant efforts to complete the project before the November 2025 deadline.

With reasonable fares and a focus on combating pollution, this e-transport initiative aims to provide a sustainable future for Rawalpindiโ€™s residents. From Saddar to Marrir Chowk and beyond, the new routes will cater to high-demand areas, facilitating the public to switch to cleaner, more efficient modes of transport.
