Samsung Acknowledges PTA Efforts to Curb Grey Market Mobile Phones
No doubt, Pakistan has witnessed massive surge in mobile industry over the past few years, especially after 3G/4G auction the mobile industry has become even more promising. With the rapid growth in cellular market, many international companies including HTC, Samsung, OPPP and Apple have started operating in the country and wide range of communication gadgets are also gaining ground like smartphones, tablets, wearable tech etc. But unfortunately with these developments in the market growth, parallel import or grey market of mobile phones has also stimulated. In search of cheap mobile phones, people are preferring without warranty phones and hence damaging the national economy to greater extent.
After Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA), now Samsung has also participated in curbing this serious issue that is damaging the national economy at large. Samsung has highlighted the list of its all official distributors in Pakistan in order to help public to make right choice. Furthermore, Samsung has clearly displayed the following important things on their each product box:[list style=”list5″ color=”gray”]
- Official warranty partner visuals

- An efficient type approval process
- Media Awareness Campaign by PTA using print medium
- Warning letters to grey market players
Grey products are cheaper than as compared to the regular products because they are non-tax and non-duty paid. Price is main factor for many customers and price-reduction act as a major pull for customers for buying grey products. Due to corruption and lack of a proper mechanism the low priced grey products are flooding the market.
Only with the help of strategies like such devised by PTA and Samsung, we can hope to get rid of this danger and for better results for the internal security of the country, the State Exchequer, PTA and above all the interest of the general public. Hence, Samsung has joined hands with PTA in this noble cause that can be proved helpful for whole Pakistani telecom industry.
