People were not so happy earlier this year, when Samsung relocated the fingerprint scanner for the Galaxy S8 to the back. Users were not comfortable with its position, as it was too high to reach. And also it was close to the camera.

However, now the company is providing a great solution and moving forward with the proprietary technology. Samsung plans to layer display technologies and fingerprint scanning behind a glass overlay. Users would be able to simply interact with their phone’s display as usual and will get instant authentication.

The fingerprint scanner would be stored above the touch sensor and beneath the cover glass. Samsung also plans to implement up to twelve pressure points spread in different areas, so that users can touch multiple areas on the display rather than just the bottom to have a fingerprint read. By using different areas of the screen to read the fingerprint will eventually result in different actions and unlocked areas of the device.

The Galaxy S9 is expected to be unveiled in January 2018. It would be the world’s first in-display fingerprint scanner for a mobile device. Which will definitely rock the world of smartphones next year.
