Samsung Plans to Launch Wireless Charging Mat

Samsung’s plans were filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patent application adopted by Samsung shows a mat similar to Apple‘s upcoming AirPower technology, which Apple says will become available most probably in 2018.

Although Samsung is already offering wireless charging technologies but they only charge one device at a time. Now it appears that Samsung’s wireless charging mat will be able to charge two devices at a time.

The patent explains that Samsung’s wireless mat will automatically detect the type of device placed on the mat and then realize the correct charging method to charge the device.

The charging methods that Samsung uses fall under the category of ‘Qi‘ technology. The wireless charging will be accomplished through a process called “magnetic induction,” which uses magnetism (to send power into a phone. Samsung’s patent will also employ a similar charging process called “magnetic resonance,” which allows the charging of multiple devices from a single charging pad.

Samsung’s latest Galaxy phones, such as the S7 and S6, have wireless charging capability. Although it’s not yet the time to ditch your charging cables, but it is obvious now that wireless charging is the future of charging.
