Samsung Showcases Crease-Free Foldable Screen at CES 2026

Samsung has taken a major step forward in foldable display technology by showcasing its first crease-free foldable OLED panel at CES 2026. The new display was presented by Samsung Display at its booth in Las Vegas and immediately drew attention for solving one of the biggest problems associated with foldable smartphones: the visible crease along the folding area.

According to early impressions, this new panel could be used in the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is expected to launch in the second half of the year. There is also growing speculation that the same technology may be adopted by Apple for its first foldable iPhone, highlighting the importance of this development for the wider smartphone industry.

This creates a much more natural, flat-screen appearance and improves the overall viewing experience.

Samsung Display also set up a dedicated “Crease Test” area at the event. In this section, visitors could view both the older and newer foldable panels side by side. The company claims that the new panel delivers seamless text and images across the folding area, meaning content looks continuous even where the screen bends. This improvement could make reading, watching videos, and multitasking feel more comfortable and less distracting.

The key technology behind this breakthrough appears to be a newly designed internal structure. Reports suggest that the panel uses a laser-drilled metal display plate, which helps distribute pressure more evenly when the screen is folded. By reducing stress at the fold point, the panel is able to remain smooth and crease-free. This metal plate is expected to be supplied by the South Korean company Fine M-Tec, which is also rumored to be working with Apple on similar foldable display components.
