Samsung Unveils New 200MP ISOCELL HPC Camera Sensor with Better HDR and Image Quality

Samsung has introduced its latest ISOCELL HPC 200MP camera sensor, bringing several improvements that could significantly enhance smartphone photography. The new sensor is already in mass production and may appear in future flagship devices, including the rumored Galaxy S27 Ultra.
The ISOCELL HPC shares several key specifications with the ISOCELL HP2 sensor currently used in Samsung’s Ultra smartphones. It features a 1/1.3-inch sensor size, 0.6-micron pixels, and Super Quad Phase-Detection autofocus. However, Samsung has added a major upgrade in the form of a new pixel design called DeepPix technology.

According to Samsung, DeepPix introduces a redesigned pixel structure that increases the sensor’s full-well capacity by 60%. Full-well capacity refers to the amount of light-related electrical charge each pixel can store. A higher capacity allows the sensor to capture more detail in bright and dark areas of a photo while reducing image noise.
As a result, the new sensor promises better dynamic range, brighter highlights, richer shadow details, and cleaner HDR images. Samsung says the ISOCELL HPC supports 16-bit single-frame HDR, allowing it to capture four times more color information than standard HDR. It also supports 16-bit RAW image capture, an improvement over the 12-bit and 14-bit RAW formats available on previous 200MP ISOCELL sensors.
The sensor also brings upgrades for video recording. It supports 4K video at 180 frames per second, making it possible to record smoother slow-motion footage. It can also shoot 1080p video at 360fps, while the maximum video resolution remains 8K at 30fps.
Samsung has confirmed that the ISOCELL HPC has entered mass production, suggesting that smartphone makers could begin using it in upcoming premium devices. Although the company has not announced which phones will feature the sensor first, it is expected to be a strong candidate for Samsung’s next-generation flagship smartphones.

If Samsung includes the ISOCELL HPC in the Galaxy S27 Ultra, it would mark the first major upgrade to the company’s primary 200MP camera sensor since the ISOCELL HP2 debuted in the Galaxy S23 Ultra in 2023. The improved dynamic range could also help Samsung compete more effectively with smartphone brands that have started adopting LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) sensor technology to improve HDR performance.
With better image quality, enhanced HDR capabilities, higher-quality RAW photos, and improved slow-motion video recording, Samsung’s new ISOCELL HPC sensor could become one of the biggest camera upgrades for future Galaxy Ultra smartphones.
