SCO inaugurates new SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY PARK IN HAJIRA AND FREELANCING HUBS in TARARKHAL & BALOCH, AJK

Special Communications Organization (SCO) marked another major milestone in the region’s digital expansion with the inauguration of a new Software Technology Park (STP) in Hajira and two Freelancing Hubs (FLHs) in Tararkhal and Baloch. The facilities were formally inaugurated by Director General SCO, Maj Gen Umer Ahmed Shah HI(M), who visited all three locations, inspected the available digital infrastructure, and interacted with local freelancers, youth, and community notables.

Upon arrival at each site, DG SCO was warmly received by district officials, including Deputy Commissioner Syudhanti, project staff, and local representatives. He was briefed on the scope of the projects, training modules, operational capacity, and the digital services being provided to youth under SCO’s inclusive development framework.

The newly inaugurated STP Hajira features modern training labs, co-working spaces, high-speed connectivity, and a dedicated work area for women. During his interaction with trainees, the DG appreciated their passion, reviewed their ongoing projects, and assured continued support for expanding digital learning opportunities. Local notables termed the launch of the STP a “transformational initiative” for the area, enabling economic and IT-based growth.

Similarly, the new FLHs in Tararkhal and Baloch reflect SCO’s commitment to extending digital access to remote communities. Freelancers shared that improved bandwidth, reliable power backup, and a secure working environment have significantly enhanced their productivity and global outreach.

These facilities are part of SCO’s broader digital vision, under which100 STPs and FLHs have been established across AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, including 50 such centers operating effectively within AJK alone.

Speaking on the occasion, Maj Gen Umer Ahmed Shah HI(M) said that these centers act as “gateways to digital opportunity,” empowering youth, especially in remote and mountainous regions. He reaffirmed SCO’s resolve to continue expanding such initiatives to strengthen AJK’s participation in Pakistan’s growing digital economy.
