The federal government has appointed Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, as Secretary IT and Telecommunication Division.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat/Establishment Division, the federal government has appointed Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, a BS-22 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, presently posted as Secretary Communications Division is transferred and posted as Secretary Information Technology and Telecommunication Division with immediate effect and until further orders.

Maroof Afzal, who was posted as secretary of the Information Technology and Telecommunication Division was transferred and posted as cabinet division secretary by the federal government on May 23, 2019. Since May 23, the position of Secretary IT and Telecom Division was vacant.

However, according to sources, some very key position in the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications are laying vacant since long and negatively impacting the Ministry’ performance.

The position of Member Legal one of the most important positions is laying for the last around one year. The position of Member Telecom is laying vacant since March 2019. Further, the positions of Director Telecom Wireless and Director Telecom are also laying vacant. Further, the position of Deputy Secretary and three Section officers are also vacant since long.

Official sources in the Ministry revealed that The Ministry of IT and Telecom has two types of officers i.e. regular and MP scale (technical/professional cadre). On the regular side, Establishment Division is vigorously followed for the posting of officers. On the technical side, the process of recruitment of MP positions have been initiated and will be completed shortly.

Prime Minister last week approved the appointment of Syed Junaid Imam as Member IT in the Ministry of IT and Telecom in MP-1 scale for a period of two years. For the position of Member Telecom, the Ministry has moved a summary for re-advertisement.

Further interviews for Member Legal have been completed and this position will be filled soon.
Further interviews for Director Telecom Wireless and Director Telecom have been completed and summary is under submission for final approval.
