Sindh Police Forms High-Level Committee to Introduce AI and Drone-Based Policing

Sindh Police has formed a high-level committee to review and introduce modern policing tools, including artificial intelligence, drone-based surveillance, and dedicated cybercrime units, as part of a broader effort to upgrade the provincial force.

The committee has been constituted by Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho to assess the department’s existing structure and recommend reforms in line with current technological and operational requirements.

The committee will be headed by Additional IG Establishment and Training, Iqbal Dara. It will include senior police officials from key departments, including DIGs of Establishment and West Zone, AIGs of State Management and Finance, and representatives from East Zone Investigation. The AIG Establishment will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The newly formed body has been tasked with reviewing the possible integration of artificial intelligence systems into policing operations. It will also examine the use of drones for aerial surveillance, especially for security monitoring, crowd control, crime prevention, and emergency response.

In addition, the committee will evaluate establishing specialized cybercrime units to strengthen the police department’s capacity to address online fraud, digital harassment, cyber threats, and technology-enabled crimes.

Officials said the committee will also look into the creation of special investigation and security units, along with professional media and strategic communication teams, to improve public outreach and crisis messaging.

A key part of the committee’s mandate will be to assess human resource needs within the Sindh Police. This includes identifying requirements for IT experts, digital forensic specialists, and other skilled professionals needed for modern law enforcement roles.

The committee will also recommend a framework for recruiting, transferring, or assigning officers to specialized positions. The objective is to ensure that trained personnel are placed in roles related to cybercrime, surveillance, investigation support, and technology-driven policing.

The initiative comes as law enforcement agencies face increasingly complex security challenges, ranging from online crimes and digital scams to urban surveillance and coordinated response during major public events.

If implemented effectively, the plan could help Sindh Police move closer to global policing standards by improving its technological capacity, strengthening cybercrime response, and enhancing operational efficiency across the province.
