Skype Introduces End to End Encrypted Texts and Voice

Skype Introduces End to End Encrypted Texts and Voice. Microsoft is testing a new feature for Skype i.e; end to end encrypted chat conversation. It will be available to anyone running the beta Skype Insider build on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, or iOS.

Previously users were not able to start private chats with other individual with the same insider build. The new encryption will cover chat, files and audio messages but not audio or video calls.

In order to further protect privacy, Private Conversations will not be shown in Chats or in any form of notification. Editing of messages is prohibited and forwarding of files is also disabled. Full encryption covers audio messages, text chat and files but is not implemented for standard audio and video calling.

Skype already offers some degree of encryption the protects the communication channel itself. However new end to end encryption will be more secure. Through End to end encryption, contents of messages can only be read by sender and recipient. However it doesn’t mean that this data can not be intercepted in any way but of course its like a new layer of security is added to Skype.

In case Windows incorporates this feature in its main Skype build, it will join chat platforms like Facebook messenger, Apple’s iMessages and WhatsApp in offering end to end encryption.
