Skype Removed from China Apple & Android App Stores. The calling and messaging service, Skype has been removed from App stores in China including Apple App store. Apple revealed that it had it put off several Apps that government said that don’t comply with local law. Skype is no longer available for download on Android Apps in China.

However an official from Skype told that the calling app is temporarily removed . He also revealed that Skype is working to bring the app back as soon as possible.

Skype Removed from China Apple & Android App Stores

Some media personals told that the disruption to Skype started in October. However Apple said in a statement:

 “We have been notified by the Ministry of Public Security that a number of voice over internet protocol apps do not comply with local law.” Therefore these apps have been removed from the app store in China.”

While talking about deletion of Skype from Apple App Store, Microsoft spokesperson said:

 “The iOS version of Skype has been temporarily removed from the app store in China… we’re passionate about the benefit that Skype offers to our users around the world by facilitating communication and enabling collaboration.”

Previously Microsoft was criticized for withdrawing products from its China App Store. However it is also evident that China has increased

China has increased inspection of Apps this year and has also ordered firms to removed many Apps that allows people to communicate confidentially. China is feared that these Apps will get around China’s Great Firewall system of censorship.

Skype’s services are still available for those who already have  app

Due to these cyber security laws, Amazon and Apple have given their business to local affiliates. Unlike other social media services that are blocked in China, including Facebook, Google and Twitter, Skype’s services are still available for those who already have the app installed.

There is a contradiction to what Skype and Apple officials comment on the removal of Skype from China Apple and Android App store. In few days we will be able to hear the actual story behind this.
