Social Media Weapon Displays: A Dangerous Trend Leading to Arrests!

The Mansehra District police have arrested different individuals for showcasing firearms in videos uploaded to social media platforms. The crackdown targets TikTokers, influencers, and other social media account holders who are violating laws by displaying arms in their content.

โ€œWe have launched a crackdown against TikTokers, social media influencers, and account holders showcasing arms in their videos. Many have been arrested along with weapons and ammunition,โ€ Mansehra District Police Officer Shafiullah Khan Gandapur said.

The operation spans all 17 police stations within the district. It aims to curb the public display of firearms, which is a growing trend on social media platforms. Gandapur also warned against celebratory firing videos being uploaded online. โ€œYoungsters have also been uploading celebratory firing footage on social media. We have also taken legal action against such individuals,โ€ he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the police are taking action under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Arms Act 2013, arresting violators and confiscating displayed weapons. To handle such reports efficiently, a dedicated control room with a landline number has also been established. โ€œCelebratory gunfire could endanger lives,โ€ Gandapur emphasized.

Over the past few months, more than 35 individuals have been reportedly arrested for creating TikTok videos that showcase firearms. Such acts not only violate Pakistanโ€™s laws but also contradict TikTokโ€™s community guidelines. According to Pakistanโ€™s penal code, the penalty for displaying weapons in public can lead to up to seven years in prison. The overall situation highlights an alarming trend among social media users, who often seek viral fame by engaging in dangerous or illegal activities.
