The CMOS image sensor for smartphone cameras sports 0.8-micron pixels. However, this miniaturization of pixel size could affect low-light photography, capturing more noise. For this, Sony uses the same technique as Huawei of combining four pixels to raise sensitivity and delivering a 12-megapixel image.

The Sony IMX586 Smartphone Camera Sensor implements the Quad Bayer 2×2 pixel array. This means on most occasions it will bin four pixels together outputting the equivalent of a 12MP sensor with large 1.6 μm pixels.

Price and Availability of Sony IMX586 Smartphone Camera Sensor:

The company has confirmed that the sample shipments will begin from September. Moreover, the price of IMX586 CMOS image sensor will be JPY 3,000 excluding additional taxes that vary with each country.
