Soon TikTok Users Will Be Able To Upload 15-Minute Videos

TikTok actually gained fame for being the most popular short-form video platform but has slowly been embracing long-form content. According to the latest reports, TikTok is testing the ability for users to upload 15-minute videos. The short video platform says that the new upload limit is being tested in selected regions with a limited group of users. The new option will increase the video upload limit on the TikTok app from 10 minutes to 15 minutes. However, there have been no official words regarding the video upload limit by the platform yet.

The new feature was first noted by social media consultant Matt Navarra. He posted a screenshot of a message shown to users who have access to the new option. According to the screenshot, all TikTok users will be able to upload longer videos to the platform from both the TikTok app and desktop. It is pertinent to mention here that the company expanded its maximum video length to 10 minutes, up from three minutes, back in February 2022. However, initially, the limit was just 15 seconds which then expanded to 60 seconds. So, overall it seems a huge jump from 15 seconds to 15 minutes. It seems as if TikTok is transforming from a short-form video platform to a long ones.

TikTok Is Testing 15-Minute Uploads

The expanded video length will give content creators more time and flexibility while sharing things like cooking recipes, beauty tutorials, education content, and comedy graphics. Currently, if a TikTok video is longer than 10 minutes, influencers will have to steer viewers to a “Part 2” video. However, creators may no longer have to create an entire video series while sharing content with this expanded time limit. It will prove to be a quite handy feature for many creators. The all-new change will put TikTok in even more direct competition with YouTube.

The company seems to attract longer-form video creators who normally post content on YouTube. TikTok was the platform for short-form content, while YouTube was the home for long-form content. However, the past few years have obscured the lines between the two companies as TikTok embraces longer videos and YouTube adopts shorter videos with Shorts. It’s pertinent to mention here that the platform has also inched further into YouTube’s territory with a horizontal full-screen mode that’s being tested in selected regions.

Reports claim that not everyone will welcome the new video time limit. TikTok is famous for short and entertaining videos, so that’s likely what people go to the platform for, not necessarily long videos. Not everyone has an appetite for long videos. That’s why TikTok has already launched a feature that lets you fast-forward videos by holding down the right side of a video. There have been no words about the roll out of the feature yet. Let’s wait and watch when it makes its way to creators.
