Stay Close to Your Companion During Hajj 2018 with Virtual Leash

It is to be expected that in Hajj 2018, almost two million pilgrims will come to Makkah this year to perform holy pilgrimage. Which is no doubt a massive logistical challenge for Saudi authorities, as it is not easy to deal with the such a huge crowd in small holy sites.

It will also be challenging for pilgrims to manage in the sea of humans. To facilitate people, two Pakistani developers paired up with two East Asian students to develop an amazing application called “virtual leash” to locate relatives who lost in the huge crowd by using bluetooth wristbands. They showcased this app in  Saudi kingdom’s first-ever hackathon.

Thousands of software professionals and students competed in the Saudi kingdom’s hackathon, a coding festival that held before the world’s largest pilgrimage. The event ended on Friday. Nearly 3,000 programmers have participated in hackathon.
Nouf al-Rakan, chief executive of the Saudi Federation for Cyber Security and Programming has organised the event.
She told AFP:

We aim to upgrade the experience of hajj for all pilgrims from all over the world,This (hackathon) will enrich that experience, will give us plenty of solutions and ideas that we can actually adapt and invest in.

We hope that this new app named virtual leash will facilitate all the pilgrims in Hajj 2018.
