Teen Girls Show More Depressive Symptoms Linked to Social Media

The researchers have reported that girls show more depression linked to social media as compared to boys. The major reasons behind the huge depression are online harassment and disturbed sleep. According to the study, 12 percent of light social media users and 38 percent of heavy social media users showed symptoms of having more severe depression.

It has been revealed by the research that 40 percent of girls and 25 percent of boys had experience of online harassment or cyberbullying and that causes them to face great depression. Compared to the 28% of boys, 40 percent of girls have reported and complained about disrupted sleep. Plus anxiety and poor sleep are both linked to depression. And anxiety and poor sleep are both linked to social media use.

According to the research that it has been observed when it comes to social media use, girls were also more affected and concerns about body image, self-esteem, and appearance, however, on another hand the gap with boys was smaller.
