Telecom Tribunal Nears Formation as Three Members Shortlisted for Cabinet Approval

The process for constituting the Telecom Tribunal has entered its final stage, with three candidates shortlisted and their names forwarded to the federal cabinet for approval, sources said.
The panel comprises one member each from the legal, technical, and finance streams, fulfilling the tribunal’s core requirements. Once the cabinet grants approval, the appointments are expected to be officially notified shortly thereafter.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the development, expressing hope that the tribunal’s operationalization will help clear the backlog of long-pending telecom-related cases. “A fully functional tribunal will provide much-needed relief to the sector by ensuring timely adjudication of disputes,” a senior industry source said.
Analysts noted that the move represents a significant step toward strengthening regulatory oversight in Pakistan’s telecom sector. The tribunal is expected to expedite dispute resolution, instill confidence among service providers, and enhance investor trust in the industry.
The cabinet’s approval is the final procedural hurdle before the tribunal can commence its functions, signaling a major stride toward a more structured and transparent framework for telecom dispute resolution.
