The surveillance process of snapchat over political ads unlike any other

Social Media giant Snapchat has some mechanisms to counter false data. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel gave an interview to New York Times annual New York Summit.t. In the interview, he reiterated that the company has a team dedicated to fact-checking of all political advertisement Their sole purpose is to monitor the political ads and evaluate if its based on fact or lie.

This debate about political ads gained prominence over the last few months. Recently, Facebook has been condemned by the international community. It is because Facebook has been alledged of promoting political ads based on lies. Earlier this year, Facebook allowed President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign to post a baseless ad about Joe Biden on its platform. That was the cause of criticism over the company’s ad policies.

Since then, all major media platforms have faced a query relating to political advertisement. Twitter also responded towards this issue.Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey declared via a tweet thread that his company would be moving to ban all political ads regardless of being true or false. This change in policy will be applicable from 22 November onwards.

But Snapchat has something else in mind. They want to occupy an interim position between Facebook and twitter. It can be clarified by the statement of Evan Spiegel given to CNBC. He said that we are striving to form a place on our Snapchat platform for political advertisement which will be based on factual data. It is because we reach so many young people and first-time voters. And Snapchat wants them to be able to engage with the political conversation. So that political awareness would come. But anything like misinformation and false news won’t be tolerated by the company.
