Three More Punjab Cities to Get Free WiFi Hotspots

The Government of Punjab has finally launched the first ever free Wi-Fi networks in 3 cities of Punjab. Under the “Digital Punjab Campaign”, last year Punjab announced the launch of 200 Free WiFi hotspots in the province. So Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) successfully installed 192 hot-spots in 3 big cities of Punjab including Rawalpindi, Lahore and Multan. Now PTIB has further increase the internet coverage and installed additional 5 hotspots throughout the 2 kilometer area of Murree Mall Road. Three More Punjab Cities to Get Free WiFi Hotspots.

Providing citizens with free WiFi is the first step towards digitization of province and in this regard we can not deny the efforts of Punjab Information Technology Board. PITB has already installed these hot-spots at the mentioned places on test basis and soon going to launch them officially too.

PITB Director Information Technology Infrastructure, Sajjad Ghani said that:

“The project would formally be launched in another two weeks’ time.”

He also said that:

“The project was already operational for testing purposes. It would cost the provincial government around Rs. 165 million a year.

This is indeed a very good initiative as in foreign countries you will find free WiFi almost everywhere. The KPITB has also announced last year to launch free WiFi hot-spots in different universities.
