Turkey Blocks Wikipedia without Any Explanation or Court Orders. The telecommunications watchdog of Turkey BTK has announced on Saturday the blockage of online encyclopedia Wikipedia in the country.

BTK cited that the Government has the power to block any such website that deemed obscene or threat to the national security of the country.

BTK said on its official website that:

“After technical analysis and legal consideration…an administrative measure has been taken for this website (Wikipedia.Org).”

Under this Turkish law, the government holds the right to block individual web pages or websites to protect the public, national security and over all being of public.

Whereas, the court has asked the government to submit official statement on the issue within 24 hours of time.

Turkey is found quite aggressive towards the internet these days as it has blocked many twitter accounts claiming that the profiles have links with terrorists. Also it has arrested 81 journalist while making Turkey the world’s top jailer of journalists.
