All social media platforms are full of inactive accounts that are seldom used. These accounts are usually involved in the spread of hoax and false information. There are many users on Twitter who keep on holding the account for years but at the same time, they remain inactive all the time. This time the company is planning to take new steps that will help us get rid of fake news and loads of inactive accounts. The company believes that by Deleting Inactive Accounts, it can take twitter to a better position.
Will Twitter be Able to Reduce Hoax by Deleting Inactive Accounts?
While telling about this decision, Twitter said in a statement:
As part of our commitment to serve the public conversation, we’re working to clean up inactive accounts to present more accurate, credible information people can trust across Twitter. Part of this effort is encouraging people to actively log-in and use Twitter when they register an account, as stated in our Inactive Accounts Policy. We have begun proactive outreach to many accounts who have not logged into Twitter in over six months to inform them that their accounts may be permanently removed due to prolonged inactivity.
Finally, Twitter has introduced some additional measures to fight uncredible information on its platform. In order to do this, the company will notify inactive accounts to log in before December 11 or these accounts will be deleted.
