Twitter is planning to start testing the Lite version of its Android app to hit the emerging markets. Currently Twitter Lite is only available in Philippines. Philippines market has slow mobile internet and expensive Data plans. Due to this reason Twitter launched its Lite version to overcome the barriers in Twitter usage.

Twitter Lite has almost same features as standard version of the app such as sharing your opinion with the world and checking breaking news. Twitter claims that it launches up to 30 percent faster, is smaller than 1 MB, and can use up to 70 percent less data.
The Lite version comes with the nifty features that include media free mode. Media free mode allows you to see a preview of images and videos. It also allows you to choose images that you want to download.
Twitter has 68 million users in the US and 260 million user globally. The launch of Lite version will let Twitter to grow its user base which is declining with time.
