Only a few hours after mobile phone users rejoiced over the unblocking of voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) functions in the UAE on Thursday, the Government of UAE Blocks WhatsApp Voice and Video Calling Feature Again. Now users are once again restricted to send text messages, photos and videos.

Yesterday, UAE quietly unblocked the VoIP access in the country. It seems the resident joy was short-lived. As now once again, UAE blocks WhatsApp voice and video feature.

Residents in the UAE experienced sporadic VoIP access. Whereas some users were no longer able to place video and voice calls via WhatsApp.
Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in the UAE restricted the VoIP services, including video-calling. However, only licensed providers are allowed to offer such services.
Earlier on Thursday, the TRA in a statement said,
“There is no change in the UAE’s policy on voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services.”
The statement added that any applications or services of this nature would be subject to regulatory framework in force in the country.
