UAE is Building World’s Largest Virtual Battery Plant

The United Arab Emirates loves to come with new ideas and break world records. The country has the world’s tallest building, largest mall, largest desalinated water reservoir, and one of the largest solar farms. Now it is planning to add one more record to the list, it is working on the world’s largest virtual battery plant.

It is five times bigger than the previous record set by Tesla in Australia in 2017. UAE has set some of the most ambitious green energy goals in the region. It is planning to produce 60% of its electricity from carbon-free sources by 2050. It is spending $160 billion by 2030 on renewable energy.

UAE has set sustainable goals for 2021, including improving its air quality, reducing water shortages and treating more o its waste.

 The County wants to balance social and economic progress. The batteries are installed in 10 different locations in Abu Dhabi, but they can be controlled as a single plant.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, a few years ago said:
In 50 years, when we might have the last barrel of oil… I can tell you we will celebrate that moment.

The move is taken according to the need. Most Emiratis are living on the coasts and will face insurmountable challenges as climate change causes sea levels to rise.
