WhatsApp Android App Set to Get a Redesigned Bottom Navigation Bar

WhatsApp is working on a redesigned bottom navigation bar for its Android app. The new interface gives the navigation area a more modern look with a floating design and rounded corners.
The feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.38.10. According to WABetaInfo, the redesigned navigation bar is still under development and has not yet been made available to beta testers.
The upcoming navigation bar separates itself from the main interface instead of appearing as a fixed part of the screen. It features rounded edges that make it look similar to the floating tab bar recently introduced on WhatsApp for iOS.
However, the Android version is not expected to completely copy the iOS design. While both versions use a floating layout and rounded corners, WhatsApp may use different visual elements on Android. In particular, the translucent appearance seen on iOS may not be included in the Android version.
The new design can be seen in both light and dark themes. The changes are more noticeable when the light theme is enabled.

WhatsApp introduced its bottom navigation bar on Android several years ago. The change moved important sections such as Chats, Communities, Updates and Calls to the bottom of the screen.
The move was designed to make it easier for users to switch between different sections of the app. WhatsApp is now preparing another visual update to the same navigation system.
The latest redesign could make the Android interface feel cleaner while giving the navigation area more separation from the rest of the screen.
Design Could Change Before Release
Since the feature is still being developed, the current design may not be the final version. WhatsApp could make additional changes to the navigation bar before releasing it to beta testers.
The company has not revealed what other changes may be included or when the redesigned navigation bar will become available to the public.
WhatsApp Continues to Update Android Interface
The new navigation bar is part of WhatsApp’s broader effort to refresh the Android app. The company has recently worked on other customization features, including new chat themes and additional appearance options.
WhatsApp has also been experimenting with different design elements across Android and iOS. The latest navigation update suggests that the company is continuing to modernize the Android interface while keeping it separate from the design approach used on Apple’s platform.
When Will the New Design Arrive?
For now, the redesigned bottom navigation bar remains under development. It is not available to regular users or beta testers.
WhatsApp is expected to roll out the feature to selected beta users in a future update before a wider release. The company has not confirmed an official release date.
