WhatsApp Business Finally Gets Multi-Account Support, No Second Phone Needed

If you run a business with two phone numbers, two brands, two departments, or simply a personal business line alongside a second operation, you have been carrying two phones or juggling workarounds since WhatsApp Business launched. That ends now.

WhatsApp is rolling out multi-account support for WhatsApp Business on Android, discovered in the WhatsApp Business beta for Android version 2.24.27.5 on the Google Play Store. The feature is currently available to some beta testers and expanding gradually over the coming weeks.

Three Years in the Making

The timing of this feature is worth noting. WhatsApp introduced multi-account support for the regular WhatsApp Messenger app in 2023, allowing personal users to run two separate accounts on one device without duplicating the app or resorting to workarounds. WhatsApp Business was left out of that rollout entirely, creating an odd gap where the consumer app had a capability the business app did not.

The practical consequence was that business owners who needed two business numbers had no clean solution. Some carried two phones. Some installed parallel app tools. Some used WhatsApp Messenger for one number and WhatsApp Business for the other, a workaround that mixed personal and business messaging contexts in ways that were neither clean nor professional. WhatsApp Business multi-account eliminates all of these compromises in one update.

How It Works

The multi-account experience on WhatsApp Business mirrors exactly how it functions on WhatsApp Messenger, which means anyone already familiar with the regular app’s dual-account setup will find nothing new to learn.

To check if the feature is available: Open WhatsApp Business and go to Settings via the overflow menu. At the top of the interface, your account name is displayed. If a “+” button appears next to your name, multi-account support is live on your device. If the button is not there yet, the feature is still rolling out and should appear in the coming weeks after updating to the latest beta.

To add a second account: Tap the “+” button next to your account name. A new menu will appear with the option to add a second WhatsApp Business account. The setup process is identical to how you set up your first account, enter the second phone number and verify it with the confirmation code. Both accounts then run simultaneously within the same app on the same Android device.

To switch between accounts: From the Chats tab, tap the overflow menu and select Switch accounts. The transition between the two business profiles is instant. Users can also see activity indicators on the idle account, though conversations on the inactive account cannot be read until you switch to it.

The feature supports a maximum of two accounts. Users cannot add a third account beyond the two supported profiles.

WhatsApp Aligning Its Two Apps

The Business app multi-account rollout is part of a broader pattern at WhatsApp. The two apps, Messenger and Business, share the same core messaging infrastructure but have historically received new features at different times, sometimes with years between them. Multi-account is one of the clearest examples; a feature that arrived on Messenger in 2023 is only now reaching Business in 2026.

Availability

Multi-account for WhatsApp Business is currently live for some users on WhatsApp Business beta for Android version 2.24.27.5, available through the Google Play Store. The rollout is gradual, meaning not all beta testers will see the feature immediately after updating. Users who do not yet see the “+” button next to their account name in Settings should expect it to appear over the coming weeks.

No timeline has been announced for the stable version release, but WhatsApp’s typical pattern of rolling beta features into stable builds within weeks to months suggests the feature will reach all WhatsApp Business Android users before the end of the year. There is no word yet on an iOS equivalent, though cross-platform parity for significant features typically follows within a similar timeframe.
