WhatsApp Introduces New Camera Shortcut and Media Sharing in Chat Share Sheet

WhatsApp is adding new tools to make sharing photos and videos easier. The latest beta update for WhatsApp Android shows a fresh design for the chat share sheet for media sharing. This update also brings a built-in gallery view and a quick camera shortcut. These changes aim to make sending media faster and smoother for users.

In earlier updates, WhatsApp tested a camera shortcut inside the gallery sheet. This allowed users to open the camera without leaving the media view. It saved time and made it simple to capture and share photos on the spot. The new update expands on that idea. WhatsApp now lets users browse and share media directly from the chat share sheet.

Some beta testers can now see a gallery panel at the bottom of the attachment menu. It appears when they tap the attachment icon in any chat. This panel shows recent photos and videos from the device. It also includes a camera shortcut at the top. Users can either take a new picture or choose something from their recent media. All of this happens without leaving the chat.

This design makes sharing content feel more natural. Users can stay inside the conversation and still pick the file they want. They do not need to open the full gallery app anymore. The experience is quick and simple. It is especially helpful for people who share photos often.

WhatsApp has also made small changes to the attachment icons. The options now appear in a pill-shaped style. This gives the menu a modern look. The “Documents” option is now called “Files.” This makes sense because users can send many types of files, not just documents. The app already allows file sharing up to two gigabytes. The new label helps users understand that the feature supports a wide range of content.

When users pick a photo or video from the new gallery sheet, the app does not send it right away. Instead, it opens the drawing editor. Here, users can add text, stickers, or drawings. This extra step prevents mistakes. It gives users a chance to review and edit their media before sending it.

WhatsApp is testing these features with beta users first. The company often rolls out updates slowly. This helps them track bugs and gather feedback. It also gives them time to refine the design. Because of this, not every user will see the new gallery sheet right now. WhatsApp may still change it based on what testers report.

The feature may expand to more users later. But there is no guarantee. Some experimental features stay in testing and never reach the full public release. For now, the new camera and media sharing tools are available only to users with the latest WhatsApp beta for Android.
