WhatsApp is working on stronger protection features for users who want better safety online. WhatsApp has started rolling out strict account security settings to selected beta testers. This update was first noticed in beta version 2.25.33.4, and now more users are getting access through the Android 2.25.36.15 beta update on the Google Play Store.

This new feature allows users to turn on advanced security controls with a single switch. Instead of manually changing privacy options one by one, users can activate a single toggle. Once enabled, the app automatically applies WhatsApp’s highest level of protection. This helps make account safety simple, faster, and accessible even for people who are not tech-savvy.

The strict security mode protects users from unknown contacts and suspicious activities. When active, media and attachments from unknown numbers are blocked automatically. Link previews from unknown senders are also disabled. By doing so, the app prevents accidental exposure to unsafe websites or malicious links. Unknown calls are silenced as well, so users do not get disturbed by spam callers or potential scam attempts. This is especially useful when scammers use automated calling tools.

Another key change applies to group invitations. When the mode is turned on, only contacts saved in the user’s phone can add them to groups. This prevents random users from adding people to spam groups, which has been a common issue in many regions.

WhatsApp will also alert users whenever a chat’s encryption key changes. This gives people confidence that they are still talking to the correct person and not an impersonator. These alerts act as a safety checkpoint for sensitive conversations.

The strict mode further forces two-step verification. This means every user must set up a PIN for account recovery. It becomes harder for someone else to take over an account even if they have access to the SIM card.

Privacy protection is enhanced as well. Last seen, status, and profile photo are shown only to saved contacts. This avoids exposure of personal details to strangers. It also reduces risks such as stalking, harassment, or identity misuse.
