Previously we have reported that Facebook is Planning to Push Ads on WhatsApp Soon. Then the reports claim that popular messaging app WhatsApp is to start displaying ads alongside its Status feature. Now according to some reports, WhatsApp iOS will Start Showing Ads to Users soon.

It is unclear at this point that if these ads will be targeted. After all, WhatsApp messages are encrypted, which means Facebook cannot use them to mine data on users. It may possible, the company choose associate phone numbers with Facebook profiles. This would allow the social media giant to place targeted ads based on user activities within other apps.

WhatsApp Status has 450 million users globally. Now they will use Facebook’s advertising system as WhatsApp Status will start showing ads next year. Now the company will use WhatsApp Status as a revenue source. Moreover, Facebook will largely use WhatsApp Business as a major revenue-driven model.

Last year in July, Facebook announced to show ads within the Messenger app. However, WhatsApp has around 1.5 billion active users per month, which is nearly twice what Messenger has, and that provides a great potential to Facebook’s ad revenue.
