WhatsApp is Working on View-Once Text Messages for Android Users

WhatsApp is working on a new privacy feature that will allow users to send text messages using a view-once option. This feature is currently under development and is expected to be released in a future Android update. Once available, it will give users more control over their private conversations by making text messages disappear after they are read.

The view-once feature is already available for photos, videos, and voice messages on WhatsApp. When users send media using this option, the recipient can view or listen to the content only once before it disappears. The company now plans to bring the same level of privacy to regular text messages.

According to reports, users will be able to activate the feature after typing a message in the chat box. By long-pressing the send button, a menu will appear with different options, including “Send as view once.” Once the message is sent, the recipient can open and read it only one time. After it has been viewed, the message will no longer be accessible.

One of the main goals of this feature is to improve user privacy. WhatsApp plans to prevent recipients from copying, forwarding, or saving view-once text messages. In addition, the app will soon block screenshots and screen recordings to reduce the chances of the message being stored or shared. While it may still be possible for someone to take a photo of the screen using another device. These restrictions will help protect sensitive information within the app.

This development follows WhatsApp’s earlier efforts to improve privacy for voice messages. The platform previously introduced view-once voice notes, allowing users to send audio messages that disappear after being played. These voice notes cannot be forwarded or recorded, making them useful for sharing confidential information.

Many users have been requesting a view-once option for text messages for a long time. Currently, some people use a workaround by typing their message as a caption on an image and sending it as a view-once photo. Although effective, this method is not convenient. The upcoming feature will make the process much simpler by allowing temporary text messages directly within chats.

The new feature could be useful in many situations, such as sharing passwords, verification codes, personal details, or other information that should not remain in a conversation forever. By disappearing after a single view, these messages can help reduce privacy concerns and give users greater confidence when sharing sensitive content.

At the moment, the view-once option for text messages is still being developed and is not available to beta testers. WhatsApp has not announced an official release date. However, the feature is expected to appear in a future beta version before being rolled out to all users. Once released, it could become one of the platform’s most important privacy updates, offering a safer and more secure messaging experience.
