WhatsApp Redesigns the About Section on Android for Easier Status Management

WhatsApp is rolling out a redesigned About section for Android users, aiming to make status updates easier to manage and more user-friendly. The update is currently available to select beta testers and is being gradually released to more users through WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.24.1.
The About section is where users can write short status messages that appear on their profile. With this new redesign, WhatsApp focuses on simplifying the process by bringing all related settings into one place. Instead of switching between different menus, users can now manage everything directly from a single screen.

One of the main highlights of the update is a new preview feature. At the top of the About screen, users can see how their status will appear to others in a chat. This is an important improvement because earlier users had no way to check how their About would look from the receiver’s perspective. Now, they can adjust the text and style before saving it, ensuring the final result appears exactly as intended.
Below the preview section, users can enter or edit their About text as usual. WhatsApp has also made it easier to control how long a status remains visible. A built-in expiration menu allows users to set a duration for their About. The available options include 1 hour, 8 hours, 1 day, 2 days, and 1 week. For more flexibility, users can also choose a custom duration of up to one month. These time-based settings help users keep their status updates fresh and relevant.
Another important improvement in the redesign is the addition of direct privacy controls. Previously, users had to go to a separate settings page to decide who could see their About. Now, privacy options are available right within the same screen. Users can quickly choose from settings such as Everyone, My Contacts, My Contacts Except, or Nobody. This integration saves time and makes it easier to manage visibility without leaving the page.

The main goal of this redesign is to improve convenience. Earlier, managing the About section required users to navigate through multiple areas of the app, including profile settings and privacy controls. This often made the process feel slow and disconnected. With the new layout, WhatsApp brings all these features together in a clean and organized interface.
By combining editing, previewing, expiration settings, and privacy controls in one place, the updated About section reduces the number of steps needed to make changes. This creates a smoother experience, especially for users who frequently update their status.
The new design is currently being tested with a limited number of Android beta users. WhatsApp is rolling it out gradually, which means not everyone will see the update immediately even if they install the latest beta version. However, the feature is expected to reach more users in the coming weeks as testing continues.
Although WhatsApp has not announced an official release date for the stable version, the update shows the company’s ongoing effort to improve usability and simplify everyday features. If feedback from beta testers remains positive, the redesigned About section is likely to become a standard feature for all Android users soon.
Overall, this update makes WhatsApp’s About section more practical, organized, and easier to use, giving users better control over how they present themselves on the platform.
