WhatsApp Rolls Out Chat Lock Feature on Linked Devices

Meta introduced the feature of locking WhatsApp chats back in May. The feature turned out to be quite handy.  It prevented unauthorized access and added more security. Messaging giant, WhatsApp is now allowing users to try the locked chats feature on linked devices as well. WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta has been planning to provide secured chats on more devices for its users, especially for its Web version. Currently, if you have connected your WhatsApp account to another phone, you may access the security feature on Android in the beta avatar.

It is pertinent to mention that WhatsApp chats locked on the primary device will automatically lock on any linked devices in the latest Android beta version. The feature is under testing. According to WABetaInfo, the new Android version 2.24.11.9 in beta is testing the feature with selected users currently. The screenshot of the feature under testing clearly shows the Locked Chat folder at the top of the WhatsApp main screen of the Linked Device. Let’s have a look:

Now You Can Lock Chats On WhatsApp From Linked Devices

The important part of the new feature is that the current chat lock PIN will not work for the Linked Device. Moreover, you need to create a secret code from the primary device settings to make it work. It is pertinent to mention that the Linked Device will not accept the chat lock PIN you already have, therefore you will need to create a new one. It seems from the beta version that you only need to set up one secret code on the primary WhatsApp account device. After that, it will automatically sync to all associated devices, saving you from the hassle of setting it up on each one.

In addition, WhatsApp is also working on a new feature allowing users to lock specific chats using their fingerprint or passcode. The new feature will give users an extra layer of security, keeping their sensitive conversations safe from prying eyes. As per WABetaInfo, the messaging giant is developing this feature to enhance user privacy so that they can lock their most private chats within the chat’s contact or group info.
