WhatsApp Tests New Quiz Feature for Channels on Android

WhatsApp has begun testing a new quiz feature for channels on Android. The feature is currently available to a limited number of beta users. It is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to make channels more engaging and interactive for followers.

The quiz feature was first identified in an earlier beta update, where it was still under development. With the release of WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.1.14 on the Google Play Store, the feature has now entered public testing. Some beta testers have reported seeing the option to create and share quizzes directly within their channels.

Channel admins who have access to the feature can create quizzes through the channel sharing menu. A new “Quiz” option appears alongside existing tools such as Polls and Questions. The quiz creation process is simple and familiar. Admins can add a question, include multiple answer options, and even attach images to each option, making the content more visual and engaging.

Unlike regular polls, quizzes require admins to select the correct answer before publishing. This is the main difference between the two features. Once the quiz is shared, followers can participate by tapping on one of the options. Their selection is treated as an answer rather than a preference.

When a follower chooses the correct answer, they receive instant feedback. A small confetti animation appears on the screen, confirming the correct response. This visual effect makes the experience more enjoyable and encourages users to take part in future quizzes.

After a quiz receives responses, channel admins can view a summary of the results. The summary shows how many users selected each option, similar to poll results. Admins can also see who participated in the quiz. If a participant is in the admin’s contacts, their identity is visible. For others, only the profile picture may be shown, while phone numbers remain hidden to protect privacy.

The quiz feature is mainly designed as an entertainment tool. It helps channels feel more dynamic and interactive. Instead of only reading updates, followers are encouraged to actively engage with content. Quizzes can be used to test knowledge, share light challenges, or spark curiosity around specific topics.

Beyond entertainment, quizzes also offer useful insights. By observing response rates and accuracy levels, admins can better understand what interests their audience. This information can help them refine future content and improve overall engagement.

WhatsApp is rolling out the channel quiz feature gradually. Testing is being done in small groups to identify and fix any issues. Once this phase is complete, the feature is expected to reach more users in upcoming updates, adding a new interactive element to WhatsApp channels.
