The tech giant Google has said that any WhatsApp backups that have not been updated in more than a year will automatically be removed from storage once the transition takes place. So those users who do not fully ensure all of their data could lose any photos, chat history, video and other media after November 12.
In a letter to an XDA Developers reporter, Google said:
Any WhatsApp backups that have not been updated in more than a year will automatically be removed from storage. This policy will come into effect for all users on November 12, 2018, although some users may see the quota benefits earlier.
The Company has specifically mentioned in the letter:
To avoid the loss of backups, we recommend that people back up WhatsApp before November 12, 2018
Google suggests that users should back-up their WhatsApp accounts manually before the due date. You can back up your WhatsApp accounts via very simple methode.
Here is how to manually backup WhatsApp:
- First of all just make sure you have Google Drive setup on your phone.
- Then from WhatsApp go to Menu, Settings, Chats then Chat backup. Select Back Up and you will automatically see everything getting backed up to Google Drive.
It is important to keep in mind that most WhatsApp accounts will be set to only backup over Wi-Fi so before you get started make sure that you are connected.
