Why Did Poco Shut Down its Independent Website?

Poco, the popular smartphone brand, has officially shut down its standalone website, po.co, marking the end of an era for the brandโ€™s independent online presence. Poco fully implemented this move, which it announced back in October 2024. Starting in 2025, all Poco products will be available exclusively on the Xiaomi website as part of a broader effort to streamline the companyโ€™s digital ecosystem and enhance user convenience.

The closure of the dedicated Poco website signifies a major shift in Pocoโ€™s online strategy. From January 2025 onward, Xiaomi will also directly manage all sales and support for Poco products. This change aims to simplify the shopping experience for customers and consolidate Pocoโ€™s operations under Xiaomiโ€™s established digital infrastructure.

Why Did Poco Shut Down its Independent Website?

The first new Poco devices that will be on Xiaomiโ€™s website the highly anticipated Poco X7 and X7 Pro. They will also debut on January 9. These devices will also attract significant attention as they offer advanced features at competitive prices, a hallmark of the Poco brand.

Pocoโ€™s regional and global websites are no longer operational. The company will now redirect the visitors to the European Poco sites, including those in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany to their respective Xiaomi Store pages. This redirection also ensures a seamless transition for customers, who can continue to browse and purchase Poco products through Xiaomiโ€™s platform.

Interestingly, the Poco India website now reflects an earlier stage, freezing in time before the planned launches of the Poco C75 and Poco M7 Pro 5G, which will arrive in late December 2024. Xiaomiโ€™s regional platform now directs customers for future updates and purchases.

Poco Store App Closure

In addition to the closure of the website, the company has also discontinued theย Poco Store app. Users who had active accounts on the app are being notified that their personal data will be retained for a limited period in compliance with applicable data protection laws. Customers can download their data or manage their account settings through the Xiaomi platform.

Xiaomi Takes Over Warranty Support

Poco has confirmed that Xiaomi will handle all warranty and support services for Poco devices. While this arrangement isnโ€™t new, as Poco has always operated under Xiaomiโ€™s umbrella, it reinforces the notion that Poco was never entirely autonomous. The brandโ€™s perceived independence has largely been a marketing strategy to appeal to different demographics and expand Xiaomiโ€™s market reach through varied offline and online sales channels.

Our Opinion

The transition reflects Xiaomiโ€™s commitment to optimizing its operations and creating a more integrated ecosystem for its sub-brands. For Poco fans, this change means a unified shopping experience alongside access to Xiaomiโ€™s extensive support network. However, the brandโ€™s earlier attempts to carve out a separate identity in the crowded smartphone market may leave some feeling nostalgic.

As Poco takes this significant step, we will see how the brandโ€™s products and identity will evolve under Xiaomiโ€™s more centralized management.
