Xiaomi 18 Fold Leaks in New Images With a Wider Design

Xiaomi is getting ready to launch its next foldable smartphone, the Xiaomi 18 Fold. Ahead of the Xiaomi 18 Fold September 2026 launch, new leaked images have appeared online, giving a closer look at the phone’s possible design.

The leaked photos appear to show an engineering prototype. They reveal the rear panel, camera setup and side profile of the device. The phone is shown in a burgundy color, which has also been seen with Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun.

Since the images reportedly show an early engineering model, the final retail version could look different.

Xiaomi 18 Fold May have a Wider Body

One of the most noticeable details in the leak is the phone’s wider shape. When folded, the device appears to have a shorter and broader design compared with many current book-style foldables.

This could mark a change in Xiaomi’s approach to foldable phones. For several years, many manufacturers focused on tall and narrow designs. However, wider foldables have started to gain more attention.

The shift is partly linked to expectations surrounding Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Reports suggest Apple’s foldable could use a wider and shorter form factor. Other smartphone makers appear to be exploring similar designs.

Expected Specifications

Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Fold will be powered by its Xring O3 chipset. The company has also confirmed that the foldable is scheduled to launch in September 2026.

Other rumored specifications suggest the phone could feature a large 6,000mAh battery with wireless charging support. It is also expected to include a 200MP main rear camera.

The inner display could measure around 7.6 inches, giving users a large screen when the device is unfolded. Xiaomi is expected to position the phone as a high-end foldable, so additional flagship-level hardware is likely.

Apple Could Influence the Foldable Market

The wider design of the Xiaomi 18 Fold is particularly interesting because of the changes taking place across the foldable market.

Early foldable devices such as the original Google Pixel Fold and Microsoft Surface Duo experimented with wider designs. The industry later moved toward taller and slimmer phones, which became common among book-style foldables.
