Xiaomi Builds its own 5G smartphone Factory for Flagships

Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, has announced at the ongoing World 5G Conference in China that the company is in the final stage of developing its own smartphone factory for 5G flagship devices. He confirmed that the ongoing 5G factory is expected to be completed in December 2019, which will see the development and production of 5G flagships. 

Xiaomi Unrevealed that the plant would accommodate large-scale automated production lines to improve production efficiency, 5G labs, and cloud services. In addition, the 5G flagship smartphone factory will be located in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone and will operate exclusively for flagships as an in-house facility. 

It is expected that the plant will cover an area of 187,000 square meters with the expected output clocking around 60 units per minute (that is one smartphone per second), which is more than 60 percent higher than the current traditional plants. 

In addition, 1 million units will be produced in the first phase of the crop, which ensures it can produce more than 30 million units per year. Although some reports believe that the expected yield in the first phase will be somewhat poor, the plant’s advantage is that the company will be able to schedule flash sales more frequently and market its devices.
