YouTuber Rajab Butt Ordered to Promote Animal Welfare After Lion Cub Scandal

Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt has been handed a unique punishment for illegally owning a lion cub. Rajab Butt is famous for his 5.6 million subscribers and vibrant social media presence. He received the lion cub as a wedding gift last month. The animal’s origin and ownership have since sparked public and legal debate, pinnacling in a court order requiring Mr. Butt to produce 12 educational videos on animal welfare.

Rajab Butt’s controversial possession of the lion cub, which he named Bhatti, came to light after he posted a video on his YouTube channel showcasing the unusual gift. The cub was presented to him in a cage by Umar Dolla, another YouTuber who runs the channel Lion Hub. Mr. Dolla later claimed in court that he was still the cub’s legal owner. However, the judge ruled that the cub had been taken from Rajab Butt’s possession and transferred to Lahore Safari Zoo.

Under a unique community service order, Rajab Butt has been tasked with creating one five-minute educational video each month for a year. These videos will raise awareness about the proper treatment of wild animals and the responsibilities of pet ownership. The wildlife department has been directed to help the famous YouTuber and TikToker in producing content that effectively conveys these messages.

In a public statement, Rajab Butt expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging the inappropriate nature of keeping a wild animal under such conditions. He stated:

“As a social media influencer, I should create positive content. I was not authorized to keep the lion cub, and by doing so, I set a wrong example. I pledge to use my platform to spread a positive message about animal rights.”

The lion cub, Bhatti, has been relocated to the Lahore Safari Zoo, where it will receive proper care. According to Tariq Janjua, the zoo’s director, lions cannot be domesticated. Their captivity can be both cruel and dangerous in certain circumstances. Furthermore, he praised the court’s decision as a step toward promoting awareness about wildlife conservation in Pakistan.

Rajab Butt’s punishment will set a precedent for addressing similar cases in the future.
