Google Play Store Now Allows Simultaneous Downloads Of Apps

Google has released a plethora of Play Store features over the past couple of years. The latest among them is AI-generated FAQs for listings, with plans to use AI to provide a quick summary of the app/game’s features. In the meantime, we also came to know that Google has been working on letting users download multiple apps at once. No doubt, it is the biggest change Google Play Store has brought. Before that, it only allowed one download at a time. Google is reportedly rolling out this functionality to Android users. However, it is anticipated to make a wider rollout soon.

The new feature is already appearing on most devices, including Pixel smartphones running version 40.6.31 of the Play Store. It is pertinent to mention that the limit is currently just two simultaneous downloads. Any additional downloads are marked as Pending until the others have been completed.

Now You Can Download Two Apps Simultaneously on Google Play Store

Google has been working on allowing users to download more than one app at a time since at least 2019. However, the idea never really came to fruition, until now. Previous leaks revealed that the new multi-download functionality would allow five apps to be downloaded at the same time. Not just two. We suppose Google will make further changes to the limit. It is tipped to allow users to select the number of apps that can be simultaneously downloaded in this fashion.

This multi-download functionality doesn’t extend to app updates. The Play Store only downloads one update at a time and leaves the rest in Pending, as shown above. Supporting simultaneous downloads for app updates will undoubtedly be more convenient. To check if this new feature is available on your Android phone, download two or more large-sized apps/games simultaneously. Users may need to confirm that newly downloaded apps surface on the home screen, which can be toggled on Pixel phones via Home Settings> Add app icons to the home screen.
