Huawei Makes A Triumphant Comeback in Chinese Smartphone Market
In a significant development, Huawei made a thriving comeback in the Chinese smartphone market, surpassing Apple to claim a leading position. International Data Corporation (IDC) recently revealed Huawei’s revival, marking a significant shift in the landscape of the smartphone market.
Huawei became the largest mobile phone brand in the international market in 2019. Shortly after, the U.S. ban hit the company stopping it from doing business with any U.S. company or any brand that uses American technology. After the ban, Huawei gradually fell off the grid in the mobile phone market. The company even had to sell off its sub-brand Honor for its survival. It is pertinent to mention that the ban is currently active but Huawei is making significant comebacks.
IDC Report Highlights Huawei’s Impressive Performance In the Chinese Smartphone Market
In the first quarter of 2024, Huawei secured the second position in the Chinese mobile phone market. On the contrary, Huawei’s subsidiary Honor clinched the top spot with a market share of 17.1%. It showcases the company’s stability and competitive edge. Huawei’s revival comes after a period of uncertainty and challenges, highlighting a remarkable turnaround for the brand. Huawei has a 17.0% market share to nail the second position. It is quite obvious that Honor slightly beat Huawei in the first quarter. Oppo took the third position with a 15.7% market share while Apple took the fourth spot with a 15.6% market share. Vivo is fifth with 14.6% market share.
Many rumors claimed that the strong return of Huawei mobile phones in the second half of last year would affect Honor the most. However, that did not pan out. Digging the market data of the past two quarters reveals that Honor has not been affected. Rather, it has gone one step further and jumped to first place in the overall Chinese market share. An IDC analyst said:
Thanks to the good market performance of Honor and Huawei, the overall Android mobile phone market grew by 9.3% year-on-year.
Huawei’s leading Apple, Oppo, and Vivo. It is worth celebrating. The company is rising high which has been at its lowest point in the past few years due to the U.S. ban. The rise of Huawei and Honor in China represents a paradigm shift in the industry.
