Pakistan To Establish Its First Digital City In Haripur

Pakistan is taking a major step towards becoming a tech hub as it signs an agreement to establish its first-ever “Pakistan Digital City” in Haripur. It is an ambitious project, spearheaded by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA), and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB). The digital city will be built on 11 acres of land. It is anticipated to be fully operational by 2026. With a staggering investment of Rs 8 billion, the zone development agreement celebrates a pivotal step towards recognizing the ambitious vision of a tech-savvy Pakistan. An additional investment of Rs 1.642 billion by Nespak and the National Logistics Cell highlights the commitment to this transformative endeavor.

Pakistan’s First Digital City To Be Established In Haripur

The project signifies a tremendous achievement. It is pertinent to mention that approximately 30% of the ‘Pakistan Digital City’ project has already been completed underlining the relentless dedication of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). Traversing across 11 acres in Haripur, this pioneering project is tipped to become fully operational by 2026.

The project is the first of its kind in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. ‘Pakistan Digital City’ will serve as a specialized technology zone, streamlining the establishment of up to 4,000 IT startups. The projections indicate a significant increase in IT exports by up to $50 million. Moreover, this initiative holds the promise of economic prosperity and job creation.

To foster growth and innovation, ‘Pakistan Digital City’ will be designated as the country’s first tax-free zone. It will offer a decade-long tax exemption to all operating entities. This strategic move is expected to boost IT exports and provide invaluable employment opportunities for the region’s burgeoning population.

Over 50% of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s population is under 30. The establishment of ‘Pakistan Digital City’ is poised to harness the talent and potential of the province’s youth. Moreover, 6,000 IT graduates enter the workforce yearly. So, this visionary project will foster Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s steadfast commitment to technological advancement and economic growth.
