HMD Global & Heineken Launch ‘Boring Phone’ To Encourage Social Interaction
HMD Global, the Finnish company behind Nokia phones keeps on introducing new handsets. Recently, it has partnered with Heineken and creative agency Bodega, to launch an unusual branding initiative called the ‘Boring Phone.’ As the name indicates, the Boring Phone will be a unique clear flip phone without apps. It aims to evoke nostalgia and encourage social interaction between people. HMD wants people to chit-chat over a cup of coffee rather than on phones.
The ‘Boring Phone’ project is a follow-up to HMD’s previous collaboration with Mattel on a Barbie-themed flip phone. Barbie Phone promises style, nostalgia, and a much-needed digital detox. It is a retro feature phone that flips the script on smartphone culture. It is tipped to be this summer’s hottest accessory according to HMD. The phone will support calling and texting via 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. The handset will have basic features to meet your daily needs. It is primarily a marketing tool designed to spark joy and nostalgia. Heineken’s promotional website urges users to text their friends for directions as a navigation method.
