Meta Integrates Its AI Chatbot Into Instagram DMs

People have been noticing a new addition to their Instagram since Friday. Meta AI, the company’s general-purpose, AI-powered chatbot has started to appear on Instagram that can answer questions, write poetry, and generate images with a simple text prompt. This isn’t a surprising move. Meta has reportedly spent the last few months adding the chatbot to products like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Now, it’s the time for Insta! Reports claim that Meta is testing the chatbot in the main search bar and Instagram DMs.

For all those unaware, Meta AI was launched last September during the Meta Connect 2023 event. The company is committed to adding the generative AI experience to all its social media applications like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. Meta AI was crafted using a bespoke model based on Llama 2, a generative text model, and Meta’s Large Language Model (LLM) research. It strives to provide smooth conversational interactions. Moreover, the company also partnered with Microsoft’s Bing to integrate real-time information retrieval into text-based discussions.

Meta Adds AI Chatbot To Instagram

According to the latest reports, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta is testing its generative AI chatbot, called ‘Meta AI’, on Instagram. It is quite similar to other chatbots in the market. Meta AI can craft poetry, generate images, and answer questions based on a single text prompt. It is pertinent to mention that Meta is testing its AI chatbot for certain users in India and other countries. While confirming the development, Meta stated:

“Our generative AI-powered experiences are under development in various phases, and we’re testing a range of them publicly in a limited capacity,”

A few reports claimed that Meta was testing its AI chatbot in the main search bar, however, others suggested that the chatbot appeared in the Instagram DM search bar as well. People were able to start a conversation with the chatbot directly from their DM with just a single click. The most interesting piece of news is that several users shared on social media that the Meta AI chatbot also helped them navigate reels on a particular topic. It means now you no longer have to rely on “Instagram search.” You can just ask the chatbot to help you find whatever you want. Isn’t it amazing?
