WhatsApp Testing UPI QR Code Scanner Within Chats List

QR codes are an important part of our everyday lives. These complicated squares are about to take on a new implication in WhatsApp particularly, Unified Payment Interface Identity or UPI ID, QR codes. For all those unaware, UPI ID serves as a virtual payment address for online transactions. WhatsApp will introduce a hugely useful way of making person-to-person payments. Recently, a new feature was spotted on WABetaInfo that aims to make payments quicker and more convenient.

WhatsApp Is Working On UPI QR Code Scanner Feature

According to WABetaInfo, some beta testers now have the option to explore a new shortcut directly within the chats list. It enables them to scan any UPI QR code. It is pertinent to mention here that this feature is aimed at Indians. Many people in India have been using payments on WhatsApp to send and receive money securely. So, this feature is tipped to be very beneficial for them. It will make it more convenient to perform transactions within the app.

The new WhatsApp feature, QR scanner appears within the chats list screen, making it much easier to use. Reports claim that:

“This process not only saves time but also enhances the overall user experience, making the scanning experience more intuitive. Additionally, considering the widespread adoption of digital payments in India, we believe that this feature aligns perfectly with WhatsApp’s mission to facilitate secure and efficient communication and fast transactions for its users.”

It will prove to be a handy feature. Moreover, WhatsApp is also working on implementing international payments though UPI for users in India. GPay and Phonepe already supports UPI. This new feature isn’t even in beta phase yet. However, it seems as if WhatsApp is working towards increasing its market share in digital payments, with India a main focus, though potentially in other countries. This feature will only function in countries where banks have enabled international UPI services. So, let’s wait and watch when it rolls out to our country.
