29.5% Of Total Pakistan Population Was Active On YouTube In Jan 2024

According to the latest reports, Pakistan was home to 71.7 million social media users in January 2024, with all of them being active on YouTube. It equates to 29.5% of the total Pakistan population. YouTube is no doubt, one of the most popular social media platforms in Pakistan. Its popularity can be attributed to different factors that resonate with the country’s diverse population.

All Social Media Users Were Active On YouTube In Jan 2024

YouTube took the first spot with 71.7 million active social media users. YouTube offers content catering to various interests, including entertainment, music, education, and lifestyle. You can say there is something for everyone on the platform. Moreover, the platform’s accessibility on smartphones and other devices has made it a convenient and preferred source of entertainment and information for many Pakistanis. Pakistan’s large youth demographic contributes significantly to YouTube’s popularity, as they engage with the platform’s interactive features and diverse content. The presence of local content creators making videos in Urdu and regional languages has bolstered YouTube’s appeal by reflecting Pakistani culture, humor, and societal issues. As a result, it has become not only a source of enjoyment but also a platform for expression, education, and cultural exchange. It plays a significant role in shaping digital media consumption patterns in Pakistan.

On the other hand, TikTok took the second spot with 54.3% of social media users active on the platform. TikTok has appeared as a strong competitor to YouTube, particularly among the younger generation of Pakistan. Its success can be attributed to its unique short-form video format, which allows users to create and share entertaining content quickly and easily. Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter had 44.5%, 30.2%, 17.3%, 12%, and 4.5% active social media users respectively in Jan 2024.

Access to X has been limited in many areas of Pakistan since February 17. In a recent development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) took action regarding the suspension of social media platform X. The court served notices to the PTA and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting over the restriction of X. Moreover, Rights bodies and journalists’ organizations also condemned the restriction of social media.
