70% Of Illegal Weapons Are Transported To Karachi Via Online Channels

In-charge Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Raja Umar Khattab, recently gave an exclusive interview about rising street crimes in the port city of Karachi. He claims that about 70 percent of illegal weapons are being trafficked into Karachi via online channels. According to him, the online delivery of Arms is the biggest reason behind rising street crime in Karachi. He further revealed that the illegal weapons are being transported to Karachi from KP via online orders. Criminals can get whatever weapon they want by placing an online order. CTD in-charge stated:

“Place an online order for the weapon and get it by morning.”

‘Online delivery’ of arms behind rising street crime in Karachi

CTD In-charge further revealed that the illegal weapons are brought into Karachi through passenger busses, and courier services after 50pc advance payment. The situation in Karachi has become more ‘dangerous‘ as compared to the Katcha area of the province. The alarming part is that the situation is now getting worse day by day as students and hobbyists are also ordering online weapons apart from criminals. Mr. Umar Khitab claimed the majority of ‘government employees’ are also a part of the weapons supply rackets. Raja Umar Khattab further stated that street crime in Karachi will end at only one cost i.e. the seizure of illegal weapons.

In a recent development, the administration of Karachi has also banned the use of drones in the southern district amid growing security concerns. As per the reports, there are “serious threats” to the Chinese diplomatic mission from militant groups and hostile agencies. The decision comes after keeping in mind the high-profile attacks that happened in the past targeting Chinese interests in the region. Safeguarding Chinese nationals involved in vital projects like CPEC has become important for Pakistani authorities. Recent tragic events, which include the bombing that took the lives of five Chinese workers and their local driver, have highlighted the need for improved security measures.
