Google Phone App Rolls Out Audio Emojis To Select Users

Google Phone app is working to enhance your call experience with a waggish update-Audio Emoji. According to the latest reports, Google is introducing a new way to express yourself during calls. The novel feature is rolling out to select users currently, adding a verve of fun to everyday phone conversations.

What Are Audio Emojis? How Do They Work On Google Phone App?

Google Phone App introduces weird emoji-based reactions in audio form to select users. These include six different emojis you can use as sound effects during calls with friends. The audio emojis were first introduced to Facebook in 2022 when the social media platform added “soundmojis” on Messenger.

Audio Emojis are a group of sound effects related to specific emojis. They can be played during phone calls, allowing users to express their emotions uniquely and entertainingly. Currently, the Google Phone app offers six different Audio Emojis including:

  • Clapping (Applause)
  • Laughing
  • Party
  • Crying (Trombone)
  • Poop
  • Sting (Ba Dum Tss)

When you select an Audio Emoji during a call, the Google Phone app shows an amusing animation. A corresponding sound effect is played together with the animation. The noteworthy fact is that the sound is audible to both the caller and the recipient, making it a shared experience. Furthermore, Google has enforced a cooldown period between uses to prevent potential overuse. The search giant wants to keep the feature enjoyable.

How to Access Audio Emojis?

Users can access Audio Emoji using two methods within the Google Phone app through:

  • A dedicated button in the overflow menu
  • A chip that appears directly in the main calling interface.

The reason for the double access points remains vague. People who prefer not to use Audio Emoji can disable it completely in the settings. The Audio Emoji feature is currently rolling out through the latest update of the Phone app in the beta channel, particularly version 128. It is anticipated to become available to all users shortly.  However, there have been no words regarding the global rollout of the feature yet.
