Google Photos Innovation: Customize Your Memories Feed with Image Hiding

While Google Photos might not be your preferred photo app, the company is constantly updating its features, potentially making it worth a second look. Google is refining various aspects of Photos, including compression and sharing, while also exploring new customization options for users. Recent hints indicate that the company is exploring a revamped version of its “Block Face” feature.

Reportedly, code found within version 6.81.0.628906483 of the Google Photos app suggests the potential addition of a “Show less” feature. This feature could allow users to reduce the frequency of seeing a particular person in Memories. Essentially, the app would learn to recognize the face of an individual, restricting their appearance to group photos. This functionality offers a milder alternative to the existing “Blocked” option. This would block a person from the memories, including group photos.

Google Photos Is Testing “Recover Storage” Feature

Based on screenshots, it appears that the “Show less” option is found within the “Hide faces” menu of Google Photos. When adding a face to show less, the app indicates that while the individual will still appear in group photos, Memories including them won’t be received. Currently, the feature doesn’t seem to be active in the app. This indicates that while it’s undergoing testing, there’s no guarantee it will be officially released to all users.

Google has been busy not only with slight feature tweaks but also with enhancing the Photos app in more significant ways. One notable development is the addition of more editing options, particularly for video content. In the same version of the app featuring the “Show less” function, there’s also an “Enhance your video” option. This one-tap feature appears to adjust brightness, contrast, color, and other video details automatically.

However, it’s uncertain whether video stabilization is included in this one-tap enhancement. Like the “Show less” feature, the fate of this editing option remains uncertain, even after testing, as Google may or may not officially roll it out.
