Govt Shuts Down Internet in Different Areas of Pakistan. MOITT has suspended Wireless data service, 3G, 4G/LTE, GPRS of Cellular Mobile Operators and PTCL in Chaman, Qila Abdullah and Pishun. Government has not revealed the time period of this suspension.

Law enforcement agency implemented this decision due to some unknown security reasons. The authorities are not sure that when these services will be restored.

Govt Shuts Down Internet in Different Areas of Pakistan

PTA revealed that in 2009, MOIT issued policy directive about the “Closure of Telecom Services due to National Security Concern”. This law allows the selected institutions to comply by the closure requests.

Keeping in views this law PTA was directed to shut down the services in respected areas. PTA ordered relevant operators to execute orders in these specific areas.

Commenting on the services suspension, PTA Chairman Ismail Shah stated that:

cross-border signal issue has already been talked about with Afghanistan via Foreign Office. Yet, jamming these facilities is still not the appropriate solution to these problems

These internet services are already closed down in whole FATA since June 2016. This ban is FATA was requested to ban the facility from terrorists and these services are still not resumed.

Mobile services in Mohamad Agency are also shut down since March 2017 due to military operation by Armed forces.
